Labeling Syringes while Reducing RSIs

In the inpatient pharmacy, repetitive strain injuries (RSI) are frequently sustained when filling and labeling large quantities of oral or injectable syringes. This can be prevalent in pharmacies that produce a lot of oral syringes, i.e., pediatric units and children’s hospitals. The Auto-Wrap® Syringe Labeling System from Medical Packaging Inc., LLC (MPI) can help reduce RSIs.

The Auto-Wrap® Syringe Labeling System prints labels and wraps up to 20 syringes per minute in a single motion. Simply place the syringe in the opening, let go, watch the machine expertly wrap the label around the syringe, pick it up and start again. No more twisting the label around syringes causing your wrists to ache.

As with all MPI equipment, the Auto-Wrap® Syringe Labeling System utilizes Pak-EDGE™ UD Barcode Labeling Software. This enables the user to fully customize the labels to meet their system’s standards. With a choice of 2D or linear barcodes, options like tall man lettering, auto-generated use-by dates, up to five lines of customizable space, and more, the risk of labeling errors is significantly reduced.

The Auto-Wrap® is compatible with 0.5 mL to 60 mL syringes and uses both flagged and tacked labels. A study conducted in 2015 concluded that use of the Auto-Wrap® Syringe Labeling System saves between 1 1/2 and 2 2/3 minutes per 25 syringes compared to manual wrapping. This results in increased pharmacy productivity and efficiency.
